The Hải Vân Pass was built to get around the headland on the coast that forms one side of Da Nang Bay. This mountainous section separates Thua Thien Hue province from Da Nang City. While the Hải Vân Tunnel has shortened the trip for vehicle traffic, the train still follows the same alignment from when it was first built over 100 years ago.

Sir Nick Faldo brings his wealth of playing experience to the Laguna Lăng Cô golf course, which is his second design in Vietnam. Touted as one of his best layouts to date, the site’s natural rugged character has been integrated into the course by maintaining the land’s natural terrain and enhancing the site’s bold and visually strong features. In keeping with its links-like characteristics, the Lăng Cô layout also offers a traditional out-and-back routing, presenting a host of varied shot opportunities along the way. As strategic as it is enjoyable, the Laguna Lăng Cô Golf Club will certainly leave golfers with a unique sense of place in the rustic hinterland destination.

HUE TO PHONG NHA-KẺ BÀNG NATIONAL PARK

Today we put away the golf clubs and continue our journey north to the Lake House Resort and the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park.

On our journey we will cross over the historical DMZ from the Vietnam War The DMZ is not just a geographical location, it’s a slice of history frozen in time. Back during the Vietnam War, the DMZ marked the line dividing North and South Vietnam, stretching along the 17th Parallel. While it was supposed to act as a buffer zone to prevent conflict, it ironically became one of the most heavily contested areas during the war.

The Hiền Lương Bridge spans the Bến Hải River, marking the former border between North and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. This area, known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), is a significant historical site. The bridge itself is a symbol of Vietnam’s division and reunification, with the two sides historically painted in different colours.

On arrival at our accommodation, Lake House Resort, we have the evening to relax before a busy day tomorrow.

A truly superb experience!
